The Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory of Denmark located above the United Kingdom. This 1980 album is the result of 9 years of visits by Danish composer/saxophonist Karsten Vogel to the Faroe Islands, where he collaborated with local musicians. It features 8 tracks ranging from contemporary jazz to jazz rock, expressing the climate of the Faroe Islands. Despite the challenging circumstances of a population of just 45,000 at the time, the music is far from outdated, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship. Particular highlights include the atmospheric A3 track "Toka - Fog" and the tense B2 track "Regn - Rain". This intriguing work is recommended for fans of frontier music lovers and jazz enthusiasts alike.
イギリスの上に位置するデンマークの自治領フェロー諸島。本作はデンマーク人作曲家/サックス奏者Karsten Vogelが9年に渡りその地を訪れ地元のミュージシャン達と共に作り上げた80年の作品。フェロー諸島の気候を表現したコンテンポラリージャズ～ジャズロックまで全8曲を収録。当時で4万5000人の人口だったという中で音楽をやる事も難しい状況であったとありますが決して時代遅れな音ではなくしっかりと作り込まれています。風情を感じるA3”Toka - Fog”や緊張感が伝わるB2”Regn - Rain”は特に聴き所。辺境好き～ジャズファンまで推薦できる興味深い作品です。
