1800年代中旬に一斉を風靡したステレオグラフ（立体写真）の歴史性、風土性、スタイルなどを考察する一冊。

古書。商業出版の通常のスタイルにあるはずの書誌情報がなく私家版Private Publishingと思われる。  

著者のWilliam C. Darrahはステレオグラフ研究者として知られていた人物。

1940年代中盤にこの特異なメディア形式の作品を多く発見。歴史や成り立ち研究を行い社会的な意味づけや作品の分類を行いました。

本書に多くのステレオグラフ（立体写真）が収載されています。  

日本に一冊あるかないかというレベルの極めて稀な一冊。写真の歴史に関心のある方には面白い資料かと思います。
