グレーディングについて (Grading Information)
- 当社のグレーディングは、50年以上の経験をもとに確立された独自の基準です。
- 当社のグレードを理解してご購入いただければ、常に一貫した品質をお届けできます。
- 現在、多くの業者が 当社のグレード番号や用語 を使用していますが、判断基準は各社異なります。
- 例えば、他社の「4A」や「5A」と当社の「4A」「5A」では評価基準が異なる場合があります。
- 当社のグレードを理解していただければ、どのグレードでも一定の品質基準を維持していることがわかります。
当社のグレード基準:
- 1A~2A【下】 → カールなし～ごくわずかなカール
- 3A【中】 → 角度によって見える中程度のカール
- 4A【中上 → どの角度からもはっきり見える強いカール
- 5A【上】→ マスターグレード、深く強いカール
- 5A+【特上】 → 超希少、極上のカール
含水率と乾燥について (Moisture Content & Drying Information)
- 当社の木材は、主に枯れて倒れた木や、何年も森に放置されていた木から伐採されています。
- 乾燥してすぐに使えるものもあれば、まだ湿っていてさらに乾燥が必要なものもあります。
- すべての木材が異なる含水率を持っており、すぐに使用できるかどうかは木材によって異なります。
- しかし、ハワイアンコアは自宅や工房で簡単に乾燥できます！
簡単な乾燥方法:
- 木材の周囲に空気が流れるように配置する
- 小さな木材は、割り箸（平たいタイプ）を下と上に挟み、重りを乗せて乾燥させる
- 風通しの良い場所に置く
- 暖房のある室内で乾燥させるのも効果的
- ファンを使い、空気を循環させる
- 木材の動きを最小限に抑えるために、上から重しを乗せる
- 厚さ20～30mmの木材なら、湿気の少ない換気の良い環境で約2ヶ月ほどで使用可能になります
*** ハワイアンコアは、ウォールナットと同じように「乾燥しやすい木材」で、極端にひび割れたり歪んだりしにくいのが特徴です。

Introduction
- We are the world’s largest Hawaiian Koa supplier.
- We personally select logs on the Big Island of Hawaii and ship them to Japan. I (Winkler) have been based in Japan for over 25 years and process the lumber at our factory in Aichi Prefecture. This allows us to offer the best pricing domestically in Japan and export worldwide.
- In addition, we carefully select and purchase logs and lumber in Japan, offering domestic species such as Japanese Tochi, Shira Kashi, and Kuri.
- We also hand-select imported hardwoods such as Walnut, Purpleheart, Makassar Ebony, Rosewood, North American Big Leaf & Hard Maple, Spruce, Western Red Cedar, and many others, especially for the tonewood market.

Grading Information
- Our grading system was developed over 50+ years of supplying Hawaiian Koa and ensures consistent quality for buyers.
- Many suppliers now use similar grading words and numbers, but grading criteria vary between sellers.
- For example, a "4A" or "5A" grade from another supplier may be different from ours.
If you understand our grading system, you can trust that each grade is applied consistently in our listings, but it's not a perfect science since we cannot always "see" all the curl or one day it might appear to be curlier or less curly depending on lighting conditions
Our Grading System:
- 1A~2A 【Plain Light Curl】 → No to light curly figure
- 3A 【Medium Curl】 Medium Curly → Moderate curl, visible at angles
- 4A 【High Curl】 → Strong curl, visible from all angles
- 5A 【Super Curl】 → Master grade, deep & intense curl
- 5A+ 【UBER - Master】 → Ultra-rare, exceptional curl
Moisture Content & Drying Information
- Our Koa wood is harvested from salvaged trees that have mostly died, fallen over, and been sitting in the forest for many years.
- The Japanese species are generally from standing trees, dead or dying, or in areas where they get too big and harvested for safety
- Some logs are dry enough to use immediately, while others are still wet ("green") and require further drying.
- Each wood listing may have a different moisture content and may/may not be ready for use without further drying.
Drying Hawaiian Koa and most other woods we offer is easy in a home or workshop. Some simple methods:
- Ensure airflow all around the wood.
- Use flat wood chopsticks under and over it to allow air circulation.
- Place in a well-ventilated or heated area to speed up drying.
- Use a fan to push air over it consistently.
- Weigh the wood down to reduce movement as it dries.
- For 20-30mm thick pieces, drying takes around 2 months in a ventilated, non-humid space.
Hawaiian Koa is an "easy to dry" wood, similar to walnut, and does not warp or crack excessively.
