「備前焼の角徳利」 江戸時代，福山藩の御用酒であった鞆の保命酒に用いられた容器のひとつに備前焼の角徳利がある．鞆の特産品であった保命酒は，北前船などの多くの商船によって全国各地に流通していたことが知られている。
「備前焼角徳利」は、18世紀後半から19世紀にかけて作られた、備前焼徳利の一種です。主に、保命酒徳利の容器や花入として使われ、全国的な大ヒット商品となりました。 この徳利の大きな特徴は、四角や六角などの美しい造形と、表面に彫られた見事な詩歌絵画の彫刻文様です。
備前焼角徳利が作られた時代は、化政文化の隆盛した文化文政期から幕末の動乱を経て明治時代に至るまで。その過渡期の風流を、当時流行した備前焼角徳利を通じて、垣間見て見ることができます。
"Bizen Ware Square Tokkuri" During the Edo period, Bizen ware square tokkuri was one of the containers used to brew Tomo's Homeishu, the official sake of the Fukuyama domain. Homeishu, a Tomo specialty, was known to have been distributed throughout Japan on numerous merchant ships, including the Kitamaebune.
"Bizen Ware Square Tokkuri" is a type of Bizen ware tokkuri crafted from the late 18th to 19th centuries. Primarily used as a container for Homeishu tokkuri or as a flower vase, it became a nationwide hit.
The distinctive features of this tokkuri are its beautiful square or hexagonal shape and the exquisite carved patterns of poetry and paintings on its surface.
Bizen ware square tokkuri were produced from the Bunka-Bunsei period, when Bunsei culture flourished, through the turbulent end of the Edo period, and into the Meiji period. The Bizen ware square tokkuri, which was popular at the time, offers a glimpse into the refined elegance of this transitional period.
