Animated kaiju dance numbers, an organic-instrument-playing classroom, over-extended nipple lactation, and forest concerts with nature used in place of turntables--these are just some of the far-out scenes that await in the dizzying head-trip, FUNKY FOREST: THE FIRST CONTACT.

Concocted by the devious minds of Katsuhito Ishii (SHARK SKIN MAN AND PEACH HIP GIRL, PARTY 7) and two prolific advertisement directors, Hajime Ishimine and Shunichiro Miki (THE WARPED FOREST), FUNKY FOREST took the U.S. by storm when it debuted in 2005, playing numerous genre film festivals and winning awards, eventually becoming an internet-age WTF cult classic. With a who's-who cast of Japanese stars including Tadanobu Asano (ICHI THE KILLER), Rinko Kikuchi (PACIFIC RIM), and even Hideaki Anno (Creator of NEON GENESIS EVANGELION), FUNKY FOREST gathers some of the leading figures of Japan's millennial new wave of outrageously original pop cinema, and then sets them loose to confuse, amuse, repulse, and freak you the f#%k out.

“ナイスの森”とは、「茶の味」でもコラボレーションしている３人が結集したユニット名。「サメ肌男と桃尻女」などの監督で知られる石井克人、DVDマガジン「Grasshoppa!」の「山岡先生／言わなきゃよかった」などを監督した三木俊一郎、同マガジンの「TRAVA-FIST PLANET episode 1」などに声の出演をしているANIKIの３人が、オチのないエピソード21話を描く。

WARPED FOREST has remained mostly unseen since its 2011 festival circuit debut, but thankfully, we've pulled it out from limbo. Director Shunichiro Miki dives into the realm of the absurd alone this go-around, but he brings many familiar faces from FUNKY FOREST including Kanji Tsuda (GUILTY OF ROMANCE) and Rinko Kikuchi (PACIFIC RIM) as well as some new faces--Fumi Nikaido (WHY DON'T YOU PLAY IN HELL?)

Operating as a pseudo-sequel to FUNKY, WARPED is filled with the same bizarre aura that we've come to love--including naked women trees that grow pornographic fruit, furry nipple sucking animals and kaiju-sized humans. Fantasia Festival labeled it an essential work in the millennial new wave of radical, hallucinogenic Japanese comedies that blends deadpan humor, delirious dream logic and creeping paranoia into the strangest of cinematic brews!

「あさっての森」は、CMディレクターとして活躍する三木俊一郎が自己資本で手がけた長編映画。サイズの異なる人々が暮らす村で、幻の生物を追う少女やミニチュアサイズの店で働く女、毛むくじゃらのクリーチャーなどさまざまな人々が織りなす日常を変態的かつ夢想的に描いたSFコメディ。2012年ゆうばり国際ファンタスティック映画祭では招待作品として上映された。13年・第16回文化庁メディア芸術祭エンターテインメント部門優秀賞受賞。
