1891年〜1921年頃、米国輸出向けに製作された「オールドノリタケ」の非常に珍しいフィグラル（造形物）アシュトレイです。
器の縁に腰を下ろし、物憂げに、あるいは思索にふけるようなポーズをとる男性が立体的に表現されています。全体に温かみのあるオレンジ系の彩色が手描きで施されており、100年以上前の職人の手仕事が直接伝わってくるような逸品です。

バックスタンプは「HAND PAINTED NIPPON」。1921年の表記規則変更前の、いわゆる「ニッポン物」と呼ばれる時代のお品です。この時代のフィギュラル（人型）は現存数が非常に少なく、コレクターズアイテムとして非常に高い価値を持っています。
